we canoed with the 4 kids and the dog from moy to the Argory. We had a lovely visit and tour of the house. We paddled on a slight bit further to the campsite by bonds bridge. The camp site was clean and tidy. It was a real delight to stay in such a well maintained yet private 'wild' campsite. A permenant fire pit should be built which in the long term would protect the site.
the next morning we paddled for about an hour to verners bridge. It was a perfect short overnight trip and having the copney campsite meant we didn't have to worry about finding a suitable wild camp spot.
As paddlers we are very lucky to have had the investment into the canoeing facilities.

Allan,

Many thanks for your constructive feedback to CanoeNI.com.

I’m glad your wife and yourself enjoy kayaking on the Blackwater Canoe Trail. I agree the kingfisher in particular are very impressive.

I am sorry to hear that you had a negative experience on your visits to the slipway at Blackwatertown. I have passed on your comments to the organisations that are responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the site so these issues can be addressed.

Thanks again for getting in touch.

Kind Regards,

Chris

This is a great river for my self and my wife being Kayaking novices, From Blackwater town onwards the river has no or very little depending on height of the river. The only problem we had was the amount of Broken Glass and general crap (bottles both plastic and glass, sharp stones on slipway, empty and some not so empty take a way containers etc) We had two inflatables so we cleared up the mess and swept the slipway (not a good way for non-locals to be introduced to an area). We had our trip and really enjoyed being on the river { spotted otter and kingfisher }.
We returned two weeks later to the Blackwater town and found the state of the slipway just like before...crap { now including dog mess }. We will never start from that disgusting place again and have advised several people we've met to avoid it altogether. We now travel even further and start our Blackwater trips from Moy. The rating of 5 stars is purely for the beautiful Blackwater River.

Dear Margaret,

Thank you for your feedback to CanoeNI.com.

I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your trip along the Blackwater / Lough Neagh / Lower Bann.

There is currently one campsite at the end of the Blackwater Trail on Coney Island, however we are currently creating a new campsite (only accessible by water) slightly down stream of Bond's Bridge. This should be open in the next few months.

There are a range of rough campsites along the western shore of Lough Neagh indicated on the guide.

The Lower Bann Canoe Trail (printed guide) is slightly out of date re campsites. However any alterations and camping updates are available at http://www.canoeni.com/canoe-trails/lower-bann/camping-facilities/. We are working with local landowners to increase the number of camping facilities along this trail - as few more strategically placed would be ideal.

Thanks again for your kind and constructive feedback. I hope you will return in the future to enjoy the trails again.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Canoed the Blackwater/Lough Neagh/Lower Bann canoe trail in 2011. Really enjoyed it, lovely water, lovely people and we found some great camping spots. There is not much guidance as to camping spots in the guide and we didn't find many many spots with facilities (trowels at the ready!) however, that is my only critisism, overall a lovely multiday touring trip for 4 people, 4 open canoes and two dogs xxx
